5 Common Eye Conditions and Their Causes
People may develop eye conditions at any time in their lives, but some eye conditions are also linked to an increase in one’s age. Other conditions may be a result of an injury to the eye or strain on the eye cells. Whatever be the reason, eye condition should be treated at the earliest as complications and chronic conditions may also lead to the loss of sight.
Mild eye conditions may improve on their own, but it is advisable to consult an eye specialist if the symptoms last for more than 3 days or get severe.
Types of eye diseases
Some of the main types of eye conditions and their causes are listed in this article:
- Red eyes
The most common cause of redness in the eyes is a severe eye issue. Having said that, one should not conclude immediately. One should carefully examine the condition of the eye, and if they can see some blood vessels on the surface of the eye, it is best to consult a doctor to avoid further complications.
The cause of redness in the eyes can be an allergic reaction. Alternatively, the eyes may get red due to a lack of sufficient sleep. If a lack of sleep is the cause of red eyes, the condition might improve with adequate sleep or the use of eye drops. Sometimes, the redness may be due to severe eye disorders like conjunctivitis, and this infection will not be cured with home treatment, so consulting a doctor is best. - Eyestrain
Another main type of eye condition is eye strain. When the areas surrounding the eyes are painful or one has blurry vision, the symptoms match those developed by eye strain.
The common cause of eye strain is working before a screen without any eye protection. One may also develop eye strain because of reading books under low light. In this condition, it is better to get their eyes checked and get appropriate treatment for the condition. - Color blindness
Among the main types of eye conditions, another one is color blindness, wherein people fail to make out differences between certain colors. Most commonly, the problematic colors are greens and reds, but if the problem gets severe, people can only witness different shades of gray.
The reason behind color blindness is the poor working of the eye’s color cells. - Floaters
Sometimes, people with floaters see tiny floating spots in their vision, and these dots mostly occur in bright light.
The spots on vision can give one a critical indication of retinal detachment, which refers to a severe situation of the retina detaching from its original position. - Night blindness
In some cases, people state that they find it difficult to see things clearly during the night. Some patients of this condition also reveal that they experience complete darkness.
Some degenerative retinal issues trigger the disease, but it may also be a hereditary disorder among some patients.
