10 Mascara Hacks from Beauty Professionals

When applying mascara understand that technique is as important as the mascara and the brush. To make the mascara appear fabulous try these tricks suggested by beauty professionals:

Adjust your brush angle for a natural or dramatic finish
The way you hold the brush when you apply mascara can make a huge difference in the transfer of mascara from the brush to the lashes. If you want voluminous lashes, hold the brush horizontally and wiggle it back and forth. If you want longer looking natural lashes, hold the brush vertically and run the tip of the brush along the length of your lashes.

Reuse your old brushes, which suit you
The perfect way to get those lashes on point is to use the right tool. Why not reuse the old ones. Very often, we throw away the brush with the mascara, instead if you like a particular brush, wash it thoroughly and dry it. Use it with the other mascaras. Make sure you clean it well as an unsanitary brush can cause eye infections.

Use a clean toothbrush to de-clump mascara on the lashes
The toothbrush helps to comb the eyelashes and to remove any mascara, which is clamped to the lashes.

Soak your mascara
You must change your mascara every 3 to 6 months or else it will clump and may cause bacterial infections. If the mascara is clumped, you can fix it by soaking the whole tube in a cup of hot water for a few minutes before you use it. Shake the tube well before use. The heat will melt the clumps and make the mascara more fluid.

Erase mistakes carefully
After applying mascara if you have skid marks around your eyes, do not rub them with your fingers and ruin the rest of the eye makeup. Gently dab it with a damp cotton swab dipped in water. Make sure you do this carefully.

Coat both sides of your lashes
This is one of the most useful mascara tips from beauty professionals. Most of us are in the habit of just sweeping the lashes up from below. Instead, first look down, coat the back of your lashes, then look up, and sweep the brush upwards from below.

Use a fan brush
A fan brush can be used to apply mascara to give your lashes no-makeup look. Coat a fan brush with your favorite mascara wand and use it to paint the color onto your lashes. This gives a natural look to the lashes.

Curl the lashes
You can use a curler to curl the lashes. If you do not have a curler, use a spoon. Press the spoon against your eyes for a few seconds before you apply the mascara. The curvature of the spoon will cause the lashes to bend easily. You can warm the spoon with a blow dryer to get the lashes to stay curled for longer.

De-clump your mascara brush
Once you have used the brush wipe it with a tissue if it has clumps on it. Use a toothbrush and rub the brush to remove the clumpy mascara on a brush.

Combine the eyeshadow color well with the mascara
If you use lighter shades of eyeshadow, your lashes will be visible from the root to the tip, so they will look longer. If you like them to look thicker, use a darker eyeshadow along the lash-line. These are simple tricks to make your lashes look thicker or longer than they are.
