The Main Types of Anemia

The Main Types of Anemia

Known as one of the most common types of blood disorders, Anemia occurs when the total red blood cell count of your body starts to reduce. Even though it is usually more prevalent among adults, this blood disorder can also sometimes affect children.

However, like any other health disorder or disease, Anemia, too, comes in several different forms. Here is what you need to know about the main types of anemia.

Iron-deficiency Anemia
Iron is one of those essential proteins of our body, which helps RBCs in carrying oxygen. However, during certain conditions, such as growth spurts, pregnancy, or blood loss, the amount of iron in your body gets reduced. In these cases, an Iron-deficiency Anemia might occur if your body is unable to produce enough iron.

Known as one of the main types of anemia, the Iron-deficiency Anemia generally occurs among children and adolescents. However, if you have recently suffered a lot of blood loss, then you might also get affected by this condition.

Hemolytic Anemia
Usually, the RBCs of your blood can live up to four months. When they die after that period, your body starts creating new RBCs to replace the dead ones. However, sometimes, due to some health conditions or other issues, your RBCs might get destroyed even before its lifespan duration is up.

In those cases, Hemolytic Anemia can occur to the patient if his or her body cannot create enough RBCs to replace the dead ones. The doctors usually categorize Hemolytic Anemia into two different types, Acquired Hemolytic Anemia and Inherited Hemolytic Anemia.

Among these two, the Acquired Hemolytic Anemia is known to be the most common and usually occurs when the WBCs of your body start destroying the RBCs.

Pernicious Anemia
Your body requires folate and B12 vitamin to produce healthy RBCs, which it gets from the foods you eat. However, if your body does get enough supplements, it would not be able to make enough RBCs. This type of blood disorder is known as Pernicious Anemia, which is widely considered as one of the most common and main types of anemia.

Pernicious Anemia usually occurs among the people who are suffering from health issues that restrict your body from absorbing B12. However, if you do not consume enough vegetables, then this type of blood disorder might affect you too.

Aplastic Anemia
Widely acknowledged as one of the main types of anemia , the Aplastic Anemia occurs when your bone marrow stops making new RBCs. This form of blood disorder is more common among the people who work with pesticides and different types of toxins.

Unlike the other forms of anemia, Aplastic Anemia is quite rare. However, it is also known to be quite dangerous as it can lead to various health issues, such as arrhythmia, internal bleeding and infections, and heart failure.

Almost all the forms of anemia are known to be quite dangerous and can lead to various critical health conditions. Therefore, if you are experiencing any of the symptoms of this condition, then try to visit your doctor as quickly as possible.
